Mountaineer and \u201csoul climber\u201d Tamara Lunger knows very well how important it is to reduce weight during challenging alpine climbs. That\u2019s one of the reasons she collaborated with the backpack specialists at deuter in developing the new Guide Ultra, the latest model in the classic guideline. The result: a tough, ultralight, professional-grade backpack for mountaineering and climbing.<\/p>\n

Today, the accomplishments of professional alpinists are matched only by the performance expectations we have for our alpine gear. Modern alpine backpacks need to be as light as possible to minimize the burden on demanding and energy-draining projects. They also need to withstand sharp, rugged rock and ensure uninhibited freedom of movement. Because the last thing you need on a tough expedition is faulty or damaged equipment getting in the way of your performance. Fortunately, the new Guide Ultra from deuter is tough and light (570g for the Guide Ultra 26 model and 540g for the 24 SL model).<\/p>\n

So how did deuter manage to combine minimal weight with maximum durability in the Guide Ultra? The answer is Dyneema\u00ae<\/strong>. This extremely strong textile fiber is used in vehicle armor, bulletproof vests, and helicopter transport ropes, among other things. It is 15 times stronger than steel, yet so light it floats on water. And one key feature for mountaineers: it\u2019s the strongest fiber in the world that combines high tear resistance with ultralight weight. But there\u2019s more! The material used for the Guide Ultra is Dyneema\u00ae Composite Fabric (DCF), which is waterproof, doesn\u2019t stretch or wrinkle, and is resistant to UV rays and chemicals.<\/strong> An additional outer fabric made of 50 Denier polyester gives the Guide Ultra extra abrasion resistance. All seams are sealed<\/strong> to keep your gear and clothing protected from the elements. Additionally, the strap adjustments and hooks are made of ultra-durable, unbreakable aluminum, providing a high level of safety and reliability.<\/p>\n

The deuter Alpine back system provides good comfort and freedom of movement. This means the Guide Ultra backpack lets you focus on the technical terrain ahead without distractions or discomfort. The roll-top closure is easy to handle even when wearing gloves, a spacious front pocket and secondary zip access to the main compartment via the back panel are just some of the features that make this mountain backpack highly manageable. And of course, it includes everything you would expect for professional climbing: ice axe and trekking pole attachments on both sides, side ski attachments, detachable rope fastening straps, and removable side compression straps.<\/p>\n
