Gear Tips joins the global movement 1% for the Planet

Gear Tips has just joined the global movement 1% for the Planet, created to ensure that our planet and future generations thrive. From now on, 1% of its annual revenue will be donated to environmental organizations.

1% for the Planet partners are selected based on their reputation, track record, and environmental focus, ensuring that contributions have a significant impact. Among the associated companies are Patagonia, Peak Design, Clif Bar, and Klean Kanteen.

“Only 3% of total philanthropy goes to the environment, and of that percentage, only 5% comes from businesses. Our planet needs much greater support, and our growing network of business members is doing vital work to increase these donations and support concrete actions. We are excited to welcome Gear Tips to our global movement,” says Kate Williams, CEO of 1% for the Planet.

1% for the planet

Gear Tips will allocate its 1% for the Planet donations to Outward Bound Brasil (OBB), an organization that promotes experiential education in natural environments. “Since the beginning of Gear Tips, we have been proud to support OBB. Now, this donation will be made through 1% for the Planet, making our commitment even more official and aligned with global socio-environmental impact standards,” says Pedro Lacaz Amaral, founder of Gear Tips.

For Andreas Martin, Executive Director of Outward Bound Brasil (OBB), Gear Tips’ decision to allocate 1% of its revenue to the organization’s scholarship fund is a concrete demonstration of its commitment to social and environmental transformation. Furthermore, it reinforces the idea that investing in education and transformative experiences in nature for young people is an essential path that promotes the development of a fairer society with more opportunities for all.

“This support is vital in allowing underprivileged young people to access unique outdoor learning experiences—something that would be inaccessible for many. The scholarships offered by Outward Bound Brasil open doors for these young people to experience adventures and challenges that develop crucial life and professional skills such as leadership, resilience, and teamwork. More than that, these experiences inspire self-confidence and the certainty that they are capable of overcoming obstacles—lessons that can transform their life perspectives for the better, forever.”

1% for the Planet and Gear Tips’ socio-environmental commitment

According to Pedro Lacaz Amaral, the partnership with 1% for the Planet strengthens Gear Tips’ socio-environmental commitment. “This alliance becomes part of a series of initiatives we already develop, such as the Programa Capacitar, which offers subsidized technical training to professionals in the outdoor market, and the Gas Cartridge Recycling Program, which encourages the proper disposal and recycling of these materials.”

In addition to the projects mentioned by Pedro, Gear Tips offsets the carbon emissions of all its events and the company itself, reaffirming its dedication to environmental protection.
