The Rio Mountain Festival – Mostra Internacional de Filmes de Montanha is a cultural event focused on showcasing films about mountain sports and outdoor life. This traditional event held its first edition in 2001, making it the oldest festival of this segment in Brazil.
In 2024, the event reaches its 19th edition and will take place from November 6 to 10 at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, in Rio de Janeiro.
Rio Mountain Festival seeks national films for the 2024 edition
Although the film showcase features international productions, one of the goals of the event is to encourage the production of adventure sports, nature, and mountain culture films in Brazil. That is why the festival organizers are looking for national productions, to increase the participation of Brazilian films in the competitive showcase of 2024.
Film submissions are open until September 12, 2024 and must be made through the platforms FilmFreeway and Festhome. Short, medium, and feature-length films produced in digital video will be accepted, in the categories documentary, fiction, experimental, or animation.
All submitted films will go through the festival’s curatorship, which will select the best productions related to the following themes for screening: mountain sports, adventure, or expedition films; films that contribute to knowledge and environmental protection; mountain culture or outdoor lifestyle.

The Festival is a cultural event that, in addition to film screenings, also features parallel activities such as book launches, photo exhibitions, photo contests, and free lectures with outdoor audiovisual professionals.
The Rio Mountain Festival is undoubtedly one of the most important events on the Brazilian calendar of mountain culture and cultural activities related to outdoor sports.
