Sea to Summit Passage: the outdoor kitchen kit used in the CAPACITAR Program courses

When it comes to cooking outdoors with efficiency, lightness, and durability, choosing the right utensils can make all the difference. And in the Gear Tips universe, this choice is even more crucial: our CAPACITAR Program courses take place in mountain environments, national parks, and sometimes in remote areas — requiring reliable, field-tested equipment.

That’s why, starting in 2025, we officially adopted Sea to Summit’s Passage line as our standard outdoor kitchen utensil kit.

Where we came from: from the Delta line to the Passage evolution

For years, we used the Sea to Summit Delta line (Delta Bowl, Delta Spork, Delta Cutlery Set). It was a reference in robustness and practicality. Later, the Delta Light line brought the advantage of nesting and a more minimalist design.

Now, with the arrival of the Passage line, we’ve seen a true evolution: increased durability, improved ergonomics, utensils with smart interlocking systems, and, most importantly, a set designed for intensive use — like what we face in field courses of the CAPACITAR Program.

Technologies that make a difference

Cool Grip

The external ridges on bowls, cups, and plates provide thermal insulation and a more secure grip — even when handling hot liquids or food.

Smart nesting

All items are designed to nest within each other (including inside Frontier pots), optimizing space in backpacks, dry bags, or storage boxes.

Optimized internal curve

The bases of bowls and plates feature a wide-radius curve aligned with the Sea to Summit utensils. The result: you can scrape out every last bit of food easily, with no “dead corners”.

Dual-function clipping utensils

One of the greatest features of the Passage line lies in the utensils. They interlock with each other, making transportation and organization easier — but they can also be clipped “end to end”, turning into long-handled utensils. This is especially useful for eating straight from freeze-dried meal pouches or reaching the bottom of deeper pots (such as the JetCook by Azteq, also used in the CAPACITAR Program).

Tested and approved in the Gear Tips CAPACITAR Program

In our courses, these utensils are heavily used by dozens of students per class — and in 2025, we expect over 500 people to use the Passage line throughout the year. That’s why durability and practicality are not optional — they are essential.

Bruno Negreiros, coordinator of the CAPACITAR Program, says that choosing the utensils couldn’t be random: “I’ve been using Sea to Summit gear for several years, and I’m always impressed by their durability. For the CAPACITAR Program, we needed sturdy utensils that would perform well with different types of students — from first-timers to experienced guides. The Passage line delivers exactly that: quality, practicality, and resistance.”

Moaci Judson, Gear Tips’ training coordinator, also highlights how much the equipment is appreciated in the field: “The utensil interlocking system is genius, the students love it. And the bowl? It really holds up! Lightweight, durable, and easy to clean. It’s the kind of gear that goes from hand to hand all year long and still holds strong.”
